Zagor non era nuovo al mondo del rock, già nel 1990 era stato “ospite” di “Freddo Cane In Questa Palude” canzone di Luciano Ligabue,nell’album LIGABUE del 1990. Adesso un album di canzoni, interamente dedicato allo Spirito con la Scure, che porta il titolo “Zagor king of Darkwood”. A comporlo e a suonarlo ci ha pensato il cantautore Graziano Romani, "rocker" di origini emiliane che, attraverso i suoi dischi e i concerti, propone un "sound" d'ispirazione internazionale, con echi che vanno dalle ballate di Willy Nelson fino ai brani di Bruce Springsteen. Romani calca i palchi musicali dal lontano 1981, inizialmente con il gruppo “Rocking Chairs” per poi proporsi, un decennio più tardi, come solista, componendo più di trecento canzoni e vantando una discografia di una quindicina di album, oltre a innumerevoli concerti. Da sempre, è un cultore dei fumetti e in particolar modo dello Spirito con la Scure, passione che lo ha portato, in compagnia di Moreno Burattini, a scrivere un libro dedicato al Principe degli illustratori zagoriani: "Gallieno Ferri, una vita con Zagor", pubblicato da Coniglio Editore. La stessa Coniglio Editore che oggi propone "Zagor king of Darkwood" in tre diverse edizioni: una distribuita in edicola (con allegata una speciale rivista monografica ricca di immagini inedite), una destinata alle librerie (con un box che racchiude il CD e un libretto) e una versione limitata, in doppio vinile, reperibile direttamente sul sito www.coniglioeditore.it. L'iniziativa di registrare un LP dedicato a Zagor e al suo mondo ha cominciato a concretizzarsi nel maggio 2008, quando Romani ha inciso un brano intitolato “Darkwood”, dedicato agli appassionati dell’eroe della grande foresta, che da subito hanno dimostrato di apprezzare questo accattivante “inno”. Sull’onda dell’entusiasmo, l'artista ha quindi iniziato a scrivere e a registrare altri brani ispirati al protagonista, ai comprimari, alle tematiche e alle suggestioni della serie a fumetti, e al primo brano si sono aggiunti "The Song Of Wandering Fitzy", "Clear Water Home", "The Minstrel Boy", "Molly Malone", "Cico Felipe Cayetano Lopez Y Martinez Y Gonzales", "The Willow Tree", "Darkwood Rag", "On Top Of Old Smoky", "Guitar Jim", "The Tin Star", "Bring On The Bad Guys", "Wilding's Dream" e la "title track" "Zagor King Of Darkwood". Un vero e proprio “concept album”, dunque, contenente undici composizioni originali e quattro “traditional” del folk irlandese e nordamericano, legati comunque al mondo di Zagor.
