Dopo Tigra e Hellcat , otevo non parlare della felina per ecellenza del mondo dell’UOMORAGNO? Giammai! La Gatta Nera (Black Cat), il cui vero nome è Felicia Hardy, creato da Marv Wolfman (testi) e Keith Pollard (disegni) nel 1979, pubblicato dalla Marvel Comics. La sua prima apparizione avviene in Amazing Spider-Man (prima serie) n. 194, è una dei comprimari più importanti dell'Uomo Ragno, con il quale ha avuto in passato una burrascosa relazione. L'infanzia di Felicia era perfetta fino a quando suo padre Walter scomparve; sua madre Lydia le disse che era morto in un incidente aereo. Nonostante tutto Felicia continuò la sua vita come prima ma, improvvisamente, mentre frequentava il College, fu stuprata dal suo ragazzo, Bryan, del quale si fidava ciecamente. Nonostante fosse distrutta dal dolore, Felicia dovette incassare anche un altro colpo: scoprì che suo padre, Walter Hardy, non era morto, bensì era rinchiuso in prigione in quanto uno dei ladri e scassinatori più famosi al mondo. Come valvola di sfogo per il suo dolore decise di prendersi da sola ciò che la vita le aveva portato via, iniziando a rubare gioielli e qualunque cosa volesse, riuscendo sempre a non farsi acciuffare né dalla polizia e né tantomeno dall'Uomo Ragno.  Visti i suoi continui scontri con l'Uomo Ragno, Felicia finì per innamorarsene, ricambiata da Peter che cercava tuttavia di nasconderlo; Felicia, intanto, decise di fare un passo avanti, dichiarando il suo amore all'eroe e rinunciando alla sua carriera criminale per lui. Peter, cosi, decise di togliersi la maschera e rivelarle la sua vero identità. Felicia non gradì e Peter credette che la criminale fosse attratta solo dall'uomo in maschera e non dalla persona. In realtà, con il tempo, Felicia dichiarerà che rifiutò Peter per via dello stupro subito da giovane e la conseguenza che la porta a non fidarsi più degli uomini. Nonostante ciò, Felicia decise di mettersi a fare la supereroina e di allearsi proprio con lui. Però, quando in un battaglia tra il Dottor Octopus e Gufo, venne quasi uccisa dai colpi ricevuti, Peter capì che era una persona normale, senza poteri, e decise di sciogliere la loro alleanza. Umiliata, Felicia fece di tutto per trovare il modo di acquisire dei poteri e ci riuscì grazie ad un misterioso benefattore, che si scoprirà essere nientemeno che Kingpin. Il suo potere era quello di influenzare lo svolgersi degli eventi a suo favore. Il ragno, con l'aiuto del Dottor Strange, decise di toglierle i poteri. Sentitasi tradita dall'eroe, per vendetta, Felicia iniziò a frequentare Flash Thompson ma la relazione non durò molto. I due, in seguito, tornarono alleati e combatterono fianco a fianco più di una volta. Per un po' Felicia gestì, anche, un'agenzia investigativa denominata "Occhi di Gatto".
