Hellcat, il cui vero nome è Patricia Walker Baxter Hellstrom, più nota come Patsy Walker, è un personaggio creato da Ruth Atkinson, pubblicato dalla Marvel Comics. Diversamente dagli altri personaggi, la sua apparizione fu come teen-ager per una serie di fumetti di genere sentimentale, ma venne in seguito integrata come supereroina per inserirsi sia nel gruppo dei Difensori che in quello dei Vendicatori. Patsy Walker fece la sua prima apparizione in Miss America Magazine n. 2 del novembre 1944 dalla casa editrice precorritrice della Marvel, la Timely Comics e divenne Hellcat nel numero 144 di The Avengers (prima serie) del febbraio 1976. La rossa Patsy Walker, insieme ai genitori Stanley e Betty, il suo ragazzo Robert "Buzz" Baxter e la sua controparte dai capelli corvini Hedy Wolfe apparvero sin dagli anni '40 in riviste come Miss America, Teen Comics e Girls' Life, ed il loro ingresso ufficiale nell'universo Marvel fu nel loro piccolo cameo sul numero 3 dei Fantastici Quattro del 1965. La sua nascita come eroina si ha nel numero 13 di Amazing Adventures del luglio 1973 quando Patsy incontra Hank McCoy, uno degli originali X-Men nel suo alter ego de la Bestia. Insoddisfatta della sua vita matrimoniale con Buzz, la giovane Patsy accetterà di aiutare la Bestia ferita ed avrà in cambio la promessa di poter diventare una eroina. In seguito i Vendicatori, accompagnati da Bestia e a Patsy, invadono il complesso della Brand Corporation. Come filiale segreta della Roxxon, la Brand e anche la multinazionale dove lavora il marito di Patsy, colonnello dell'aeronautica. All'interno dei suoi locali i supereroi troveranno uno dei costumi dell'eroina Tigra, il quale viene indossato da Patsy che si trasforma così in Hellcat, mentre suo marito Baxter diventerà in seguito il supercattivo Mad-Dog.Nel corso degli anni Patsy/Hellcat bazzicherà con molti supereroi, facendo parte sia dei Difensori (dove conoscerà Hellstrom, suo futuro marito) che dei Vendicatori.Nei primi anni della sua carriera affrontò un'altra celebre donna-gatto, Felicia Hardy alias la Gatta Nera, quando cercò di impedire il furto di un manufatto esposto in un museo ma appartenuto al padre di Felicia. Patsy Walker, assieme al marito, collaborò con i Vendicatori della costa ovest quando chiesero aiuto al popolo felino per guarire l'anima della predecedente Hellcat, ovvero Greer Nelson alias Tigra; inoltre era presente durante gli eventi di Vendicatori Divisi, incredula difronte alla follia di Scarlet.
